There are two ways
to go to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Either through theft of Kolkata or
Chennai to Port Blair, capital or
through a more adventurous cruise
ship that leaves from Kolkata, Chennai
and Vishakapatnam, respectively. Of
the 572 islands, only 38 islands are
inhabited with the majority of the
islands under the Andaman islands
spread over an area of 6408 square
kilometres. Nicobar Islands are largely
uninhabited, with only 12 islands
are inhabited, mostly by tribes indigenous
Nicobarese and Shompen. The rich heritage
of the tribes of Andaman Islands is
now left with only about 400 to 450
tribal population of the Jarawa and
the Sentinelese. These tribes are
known to be rather isolated and rather
hostile to any contact with the outside
world. The oral traditions of these
tribes have been a wonder for many,
that these tribes have managed to
survive the great tsunami and more
than 7,000 people lost their lives
in December 2004.
What May were known
as "Kalapani" during the
British rule and given the death of
many freedom fighters of Indians,
also offers a wealth of flora and
fauna. Beaches in Andaman and Nicobar
islands are ideal places for the collection
of some of the most beautiful pieces
of shells and coral reefs at home
as memories. Whether the rich marine
